26 - 28 March 2027, State College (Penn State University)
We are delighted to welcome you to the first-edition of SANGAM, a three-day confluence of classical & traditional Indian arts, jointly organized by SANGAM and Society for Indian Music and Arts (SIMA) at the Penn State University.
Held in the vibrant and diverse academic environment of Penn State, the confluence brings together artists, scholars, students, and rasikas to experience the depth, beauty, and evolving expressions of Indian classical & traditional performing arts. The University Park campus, known for its strong commitment to global cultures and interdisciplinary collaboration, provides an inspiring setting for dialogue, performance, and learning.
A Confluence of Tradition, Scholarship, and Practice
Rooted in the spirit of sangam, this gathering seeks to create meaningful intersections between performance and pedagogy, tradition and innovation, and established and emerging voices. Over three immersive days, the program will feature plenary invited speakers and artists, curated talks selected from submitted abstracts, panel discussions on the evolving landscapes of Indian music and dance, and lecture-demonstrations exploring vocal training, instrumental traditions, and the nuances of classical technique and repertoire.
Beyond the formal sessions, the Confluence will offer spaces for interaction, mentorship, and shared listening and viewing, nurturing connections that extend well beyond these three days. In this spirit, we look forward to bringing together a community of performers, teachers, researchers, and enthusiasts to celebrate, reflect upon, and re-imagine the living traditions of Indian classical music and dance.
We look forward to welcoming you to SANGAM Confluence 2027.
